February 21, 2016, Dhaka.
LETSB observed ‘National Martyr Day’ as well as ‘International Mother Language Day’ on February 21, 2016 by giving flowers to the ‘Central Martyr Monument’ at Dhaka through a disciplined ‘Provat Ferry’ (Dawn Rally). The rally was ended up at our home ground ‘Martyr Monument’ at ILET (University of Dhaka) Campus.
[A brief description of the Day:
A ‘Language Movement’ was carried out in Dhaka, Bangladesh (Formerly East Pakistan) on February 21, 1952 to keep the independence of using Mother Tongue, Bangla and demanding its recognition as the ‘State Language’ of Bangladesh. But the Pakistani Police and Army attacked into the Movement and a number of students of Dhaka University were killed by them. Since then the date 21st February has been observed across Bangladesh as ‘National Martyr Day’.
UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) declared 21st February as ‘International Mother Language Day’ in 1999 in order to commemorate the day February 21, 1952 in recognition of those who sacrificed their lives fighting for their mother tongue in Bangladesh (East Pakistan). And it has been observed globally since February 21, 2000. ]
